Welcome to this, the 17th issue of Make Magazine. We chose the theme of Hope for this issue as it seems to sum up how a lot of us would like to view the future, despite the very evident uncertainties of life right now. We are, of course, a fashion and beauty publication so we don’t wish to be too political or force any agendas but post-Brexit and post Pandemic, the world still seems to be in a huge state of flux. So, surely hope is what is keeping a lot of us buoyant and resilient right now.
Probably F. Scott Fitzgerald said it best when he wrote:
‘We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you’ve never felt before. I hope you meet people who have a different point of view. I hope you live a life you’re proud of, and if you’re not, I hope you have the courage to start over again.”
In this issue, we have our usual dose of beautiful and hopefully inspiring fashion and beauty. We hear from the Turkish fashion designer Bora Aksu about his creative path. We talk to the incredible artist Nancy Cadogan (work pictured here) and revel in her joyful sense of colour. We chat with the wonderful Natasha Culzac about her futuristic, warrior role in the new series of Halo. We celebrate the return of the high heel (after many flat years) and we then discuss the iconic design of the Coke bottle.
As always, we are indebted to our amazing contributors who consistently provide us with such gorgeous content. We would be nothing without their beautiful, collaborative work.
We really HOPE you will love this issue!
