Intimacy: noun
A close familiarity or friendship, usually affectionate with another person or group.
A detailed understating of a place or subject.
An act of expression serving as a token of familiarity or affection.
Welcome to our fifteenth issue of Make Magazine, and our second pandemic edition!
We chose the theme of intimacy for this issue as we felt it was a pertinent and interesting subject, given the set of circumstances we have all been living under. We realised that have all been dealing with intimacy in different ways and with very different definitions in lockdown.
Some people, living on their own, might be craving it. Some people living with children might be overwhelmed by a lack of personal time and space. Some people might have experienced surprising levels of intimacy or a sense of kindred spirit, in the most mundane of places. No matter what your feelings might be, I think we can all agree that our intimate relationships have been affected in some way during this unusual experience.
In this issue, in a dictionary definition of intimacy, we have collaborated with many incredible people from many different fields of the photographic and written world, who have been kind enough to spend their valuable time, lovingly creating the beautiful images and features that grace this edition.
In a time when physical intimacy has been restricted, and a sense of community denied us, we hope that this issue might serve to connect you to the intimacies of other people’s worlds. It’s always been our aim to provide an inspirational platform to connect you, albeit virtually, to some people, design, ideas and places that, and that concept seems more poignant right now.
We really hope you enjoy this issue.
Stay safe and well
