Editors letter
Welcome to another issue of Make Magazine. We originally wrote our editors letter in February 2020 when the world seemed a very, very different place. This is a tough time for us all and a time when high fashion and beauty seem rather redundant as we hunker down in our homes and concentrate on more pressing matters. However, we hope that this issue might serve to offer some simple, hedonistic escapism and transport us to a ‘happy place’ for a little while.
Our theme this issue is ‘Classic’ which has proven to be an inspiring one for all our talented collaborators and contributors: In it we talk to the Israeli designers of Complet, a handbag company whose designs bear all the hallmarks for being considered future classics. We have a chat with our cover star, actor Alice Eve about her role in the new period drama Belgravia, by Downton Abbey’s creator Julian Fellows, which is surely a TV classic in the making. Our beauty article this issue features the five essential that world-renowned makeup artist Alex Babsky considers classics and that he would never fail to pack. Sartorially, our brilliant fashion teams have explored what the word means to them and have put a new spin on some old-school style classics.
As ever, we are indebted to continued and brilliant creatives whose work we are fortunate to publish. We hope that as the Make journey continues, the magazine eventually lives up to the dictionary definition of the word classic; Classic: Adjective ‘Judged over a period of time to be of the highest quality and outstanding of its kind’
We hope you enjoy this issue and maybe have the time to enjoy our past issues too, especially if you are new to Make.
